Study in Canada — International Student Guide

Canada is one of the world's top destinations for international students, home to globally ranked universities, colleges, and polytechnics. Studying in Canada is also one of the strongest pathways to permanent residence — especially through the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) and Canadian Experience Class.

Why Study in Canada?

World-Class Education

Canada is home to 10 of the world's top 300 universities (QS Rankings), including the University of Toronto, McGill, UBC, and Waterloo. College programs at institutions like Humber, George Brown, and Seneca are globally respected for applied learning.

Post-Graduation Work Permit

After completing a study program of 8 months or more at an eligible DLI, you can apply for a PGWP lasting up to 3 years. Work for any employer anywhere in Canada — no job offer required at the time of application.

Pathway to Permanent Residence

Study → PGWP → Canadian work experience → Express Entry CEC nomination. This pipeline has produced hundreds of thousands of permanent residents and is one of Canada's most reliable immigration pathways.

Work While You Study

Full-time students at DLI institutions can work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during academic sessions and full-time during scheduled breaks, without needing a separate work permit.

Spouse Can Work

If you are enrolled in a master's, doctoral, or certain professional degree programs, your spouse or common-law partner may be eligible for an open spousal work permit to work full-time in Canada during your studies.

Affordable vs. USA/UK

Tuition fees and cost of living are typically lower than comparable programs in the United States or United Kingdom, while offering equivalent or superior career outcomes and immigration prospects.
