Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP / AAIP)

Alberta's immigration program — the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) — offers multiple streams for skilled workers, graduates, rural communities, and entrepreneurs who wish to live and work in Alberta permanently.

Program NameAAIP
Federal Top-Up+600 CRS
Processing (EE)6–9 months
Processing (Base)14–20 months

AAIP Streams

Alberta Express Entry Stream

Linked to the federal Express Entry pool. Alberta invites candidates in NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 who meet FSWP or CEC criteria. A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points. No separate EOI required — AAIP proactively selects from the EE pool.

Alberta Opportunity Stream

For temporary foreign workers currently working in Alberta on a valid work permit for at least 6 months. Must be in an eligible NOC TEER 0–3 occupation, meet CLB language requirements, and have a full-time, permanent job offer from an Alberta employer.

Rural Renewal Stream

For workers who have a genuine connection to a designated rural Alberta community (e.g., Lacombe, Westlock, Lethbridge). The community recommends the candidate. Must have a qualifying job offer in the community.

Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

For international graduates of Alberta post-secondary institutions who want to start or purchase a business in Alberta. Must have a viable business plan, net worth of at least $300,000, and commit to actively managing the business.

Farm Stream

For experienced farm operators/managers intending to purchase or operate a farm in Alberta. Must have farming experience, net worth of $500,000+, and provide evidence of intent to farm in Alberta.

Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

Similar to Graduate Entrepreneur Stream but for graduates from outside Alberta who have completed a degree or diploma from an eligible Canadian institution.
